Every film we grade is graded at a thickness, because the same coating out of the same gun fails differently thin than it does heavy — dry and sandy one way, solvent pop and runs the other. This works backwards from the dry build you want to the wet film you have to lay, the coverage a gallon really gives once reduction and overspray are counted, and how much material the job takes.
By volume, not by weight — the data sheet lists both and they differ a lot.

The share of material that lands on the work rather than in the air. Compliant HVLP is commonly quoted near 65%, airless near 50%, air-assisted airless higher. Lower it for small parts and heavy overspray loss.
